Sabres collaborate with nearby Hispanic community center to host watch party.
The atmosphere was buzzing outside the Agustin “Pucho” Olivencia Community Center at 11:30 a.m. Families were arriving to join the Buffalo Sabres Hispanic Community Watch Party for the game against the Detroit Red Wings. Despite the event not starting for another hour, people were already lining up and children were setting up a street hockey game. They continued to play throughout the day, emulating their favorite players’ moves while proudly wearing their Sabres gear.
The sound of laughter, music, and excitement filled the air as nearly 100 people entered the community center to partake in the day’s festivities. Wilmer Olivencia, the center’s president, was awe-inspired as he watched the building fill with families and friends. “This is just a dream come true for us,” Olivencia said. “And I’m not just talking about us here at the Olivencia Center, but for the entire Hispanic community.
To be able to network with the Sabres and to come together and to have such a great event like today is just something that’s going to go down in the record books here at the community center.”
